Inspirational Blog Entry Death, Dying, Terminal Illness and a Better Appreciation for Life One unpopular and often times intentionally avoided topic I endeavor to take on in a frank and unabashed manner in my motivational and inspirational book, “The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once” is the topic of death. Specifically, there’s a chapter, “Eventually, Death Visits Us All” that features compelling inspirational stories and poems particular to the topics of dealing with loss, terminal illness and death. I told a reporter recently, who was interviewing me about the book, which often times our society seems to do everything we possibly can to ignore, and otherwise avoid, the thought of death, dying, terminal illness – or anything of the sort. Perhaps, we somehow think if we can manage not to think about it, or acknowledge it, we somehow will never have to deal with it… it will somehow never manage to cross our paths. Well, obviously nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is… whether we think about it or not, the grains of sand continue to make their respective ways through the hourglasses of our lives. And ultimately whether we choose to appreciate it or not, each day… each hour… each minute… is both precious and fleeting. For each span of time in our lives represents a window of time we will not be getting back. Spend it wisely - or not… Spend it positively - or not… Spend it in a way that brings more purpose, achievement, passion, inspiration, happiness and fulfillment to our lives – or not… The reality is, that time simply won’t be coming back. So, what does all this have to do with a motivational and inspirational book? Well, my contention is gaining a healthy appreciation of death is a surefire way of optimizing one’s perspective and appreciation of life. How? Simply put, there’s no better way to crystallize the value of time – and the absolute importance of how we decide to spend each day… each hour… each and every minute of our respective lives. With that new appreciation for life, the nature of our perceptions, thoughts, intentions, decisions and behaviors have incredible license to change – and from there, tomorrow and every day after can never be the same. And thus, whether you or someone you care about is struggling to deal with the concept of death, trying to find the strength to support someone through a terminal illness, endeavoring to better appreciate the perspective of someone you care about who may be dying or pained with the heartache of a loved one lost the stories and poems in this book can be a source of perspective, inspiration and empowerment. (Click here to read an inspirational story excerpt from “Eventually, Death Visits Us All) Conversely, if you would like to get a gain a better appreciation for life… for the importance and relevance of the time we are blessed with each and every day, if you would like to begin to develop a an enhanced sense of purpose, inspiration, motivation, empowerment and sheer determination to get the most out of life - well then, this very well may be the book for you. For once we truly come to appreciate the time we’ve been blessed with, not living it to the fullest, not doing purposeful things and not spending it with the people most meaningful in our lives – can no longer be an option. The only question is… Are you ready for a new perspective?
