Motivational and Inspirational Stories: The Christmas Spirit

Well, it has finally hit me. I woke up yesterday morning and decided it was time to break out the Christmas music. Okay… I know it’s a little late in the season for most - but what can I say? The Christmas Spirit hits… when it hits.

Perhaps, for me, it’s my very own personal psychological backlash on behalf of the unabashed, over-the-top mass commercialism, outlandish spending and the apparent lack of recognition for the true meaning of the season. Don’t mind me however. I guess my real problem is I’m just a tad bit nostalgic for the way things used to be - the caring… the tradition… the generosity… the authenticity… the goodwill… the sense of family, neighborliness and friendship… the wonder… the fascination… the timelessness… the simplicity… the love…

Or perhaps it’s simply my ever ascending age giving way to eternally flawed memories. I’d be willing to wager a little though, that some truth lies in my longing desire for the past. For instance, I can remember the Christmas many, many years ago when all I wanted was a Slinky. It was all I asked my parents for – and, largely ignoring other toys, all that I played with for the bulk of the day. Boy, I certainly went up and down the steps a few times that day. Somehow though, I have difficulty envisioning that happening with the kids, and the kind of gifts expected, today.

Just the same… The Christmas Spirit is upon me. And in a few hours, when I head out to finish up my shopping – perhaps I’ll come across an occasion or two to, through some simple and charitable deed, do my part to remind a few other last minute shoppers of what the Christmas season used to be all about.

And for those of you reading this who do celebrate the season – I dug up one of my earlier passages on the topic. Take a few seconds and consider the following… what Christmas is, what it was - and what we truly want it to be about…

This Holiday Season …

We celebrate the birth of the Son
The revival of our spirit for giving
The rejuvenation of love for mankind
And the rekindled essence of living

We give thanks for the blessings bestowed
For friends and family, whose love we hold dear
For health, physical, emotional and spiritual
And economic stability throughout the year

In that spirit let’s pledge the gift of kindness
On behalf of someone not otherwise known
Inspired with the love signified by the birth
An act where the real spirit of Christmas is shown

Merry Christmas!

And the world will be a better place…

About A Motivational & Inspirational Book: Time For A Change?

At this point in your existence, does your life seem to have purpose? Are you well on the road to achieving the kinds of things you always wanted to? Do the words meaningful and fulfilling describe many of your endeavors? Do you really like, and are you truly proud of, the person you’ve become? If change is desired, do you have a viable plan to begin to implement it? Can you see a realistic probability for true happiness and fulfillment in your future? And finally, do you currently buy into the belief that a considerably more motivated and inspired outlook and significantly improved results is a viable outcome for you?

Is your honest answer to any of the previous questions… no? Is the reality that your answer to most if not all of the questions is no. If so, don’t think for a moment that you’re alone. The simple truth is often times in life, especially in these hectic times and days of immediate gratification, we get so caught up in running around, attempting to check off all the things we’ve come to associate with living – that we forget we’re actually supposed to be alive. But the good news is it doesn’t have to continue to be that way.

Take a look at the following…

There simply has to be more to life than the here and now, more than worrying about bills, the job, schedules, and acquiring more possessions. Life is supposed to be more than the hustle and bustle, more than the daily grind of merely making it through each individual day until there are no more. Our days are supposed to be rooted in more meaningful and lasting pursuits like purpose, charity, faith, happiness, and fulfillment. We are here to make a difference. In "The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once", you will find stories and perspectives that will help unlock your amazing potential—potential to foster monumental change in yourself and the people around you.

These are the words you’ll find on the back cover of a pretty fascinating, insightful and uplifting book, “The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once: Stories and Perspectives to Help You Unlock Your Amazing Potential”. Inside you will find stories and perspectives that will challenge, inspire and motivate you to begin to perceive, see, define and respond to your circumstances in very different, and significantly more effective, ways. And if you are willing to truly commit to the message, to yourself and to your future… My belief is you will find that beginning to turn things around in your life, day by day, just may be much more feasible than you ever thought.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself. In the coming days and weeks I will be providing much more detail about what “The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once” is all about… what the message is, what the message is not, excerpts from the inspirational book and reviews that will help motivate you to give a new outlook a chance. So, stay tuned…

Or better yet, if you want to jump ahead of the class you can visit www.STSTheBook.com. However, if you’ve heard enough and already appreciate the value an altered perspective, outlook and attitude can bring… (if you really want to ruin the curve) - go to here to order book(s) for yourself and/or a loved one.

Each day, be inspired – then aspire to more…

Talk to you soon.

Motivational & Inspirational Stories: A Better Place

Above all else, SomethingToShare.com and the motivational and inspirational book, “The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once: Stories and Perspectives to Help You Unlock Your Amazing Potential” (see much more including excerpts, inspiring reviews, etc. at STSTheBook.com) were created as beacons for perspective - as a refuge for inspiration. And as the namesake implies, the true magnitude and potential of our efforts is ultimately contingent on the extent to which we are all willing to share - share our feelings... our experiences... our insights... our inspiration... our growth… our dreams… our potential.

So, what about you? What are your hopes... your fears? What causes your biggest smiles... your heaviest tears? Do you take time out from the hustle and bustle of life every once in a while to examine your priorities... to challenge your perspective... to question your destiny? Do your loved ones truly know that they are? What is the one thing that you wish you could do to make an impact in this life? Exactly what's stopping you from getting started?

We must realize that in the end what matters in this life is not what we could have done - but what we do. And no matter how much we tell ourselves that we cannot make a difference, the truth is each day each one of us can make a difference in someway… for someone. After all, it doesn't take a lot to make a difference - just a little time and a little concern as the following passage so eloquently illustrates;

Starfish, (an interpretation), Author: Unknown

A young girl, vacationing with her family, arose early with excitement. Today was the much touted Starfish Day - a day full of festivities beginning with the collection of Starfish souvenirs. Excited, the young girl's early arrival to stake her claim was interrupted by something further down the beach. A quarter mile away there appeared to be a figure repeatedly throwing something into the ocean.

As the young girl approached, she asked what the woman was doing. The woman replied, "high tide has washed all of these Starfish up on shore and they will die if I do not save them." In disbelief the young girl countered, "you can't be serious... there are hundreds and hundreds of Starfish along the beach... you can't save them... what difference could you possibly make?"

With this the woman picked up a Starfish, threw it especially hard against the waves. Then turning to the young girl she offered, "I definitely made a difference in that one's life - didn't I?"

A little later as the guests filed out of the hotel, they were perplexed to see two figures down the beach repeatedly tossing something into the ocean.

Without a doubt, we have the capability to make a difference each and every day... for the people we know and those we will never know. Selfless deeds and inspirational words have a way of taking on a life of their own - many times fostering generations of other selfless deeds and inspirational words in their wake.

So make a positive impact, no matter how big or how small, every chance you get. Whether you bring laughter to someone in the midst of losing all perspective or offer hope where there is a short supply... whether you sacrifice for someone in their hour of need or simply try to appreciate a different point of view with your paradigms freed... whether you pay for the next car at the toll booth or choose, on a daily basis, find ways to inspire, encourage and motivate yourself, your family and friends... Whatever you choose to do, make even a small difference on this day and the next…

And the world will be a better place…

Talk to you soon.

Motivational & Inspirational Stories: Feed the Bear

Motivational & Inspirational Stories: Feed the Bear

Recently I found myself endeavoring to better understand the actions of a couple co-workers (from my ‘day job’). Although slightly different in their approaches, they shared some rather obvious characteristics – seemingly very much foreign to me. It was easy to see that both were very much rooted a ‘me first’ mentality – each willing to do whatever was needed to ensure they looked good to management, each, whenever perceived necessary, just as willing, seasoned and comfortable with backstabbing and discrediting undeserving innocents along the way.

As I rounded out my quick comparison of the two, it further occurred to me that they also shared a seemingly less than ingenuous inherent concern that the task at hand, or initiative itself, be either successfully executed or flawless in effort. Instead, their apparent concerns were only that their associated decisions and actions be perceived that way… that whenever the proverbial lights were on, management inferred their efforts as the most results-based and commanding. It wasn’t about the quality of the mission so much as their relative position in comparison to other employees, when the ‘cameras were rolling’.

Having seen the results of their predatory traits numerous times before… having witnessed the easily discernable drop off of concern and diligence once anyone immediately capable of boosting their respective careers were no longer in earshot – on this particular day I found myself wondering.

Regretfully, it occurred to me that these two individuals, by no means, had the market cornered in this arena – and this most definitely was not merely a corporate thing. The unfortunate truth is on a daily basis, in everyday life, the results of this ‘Me First’ mentality can be readily found. For instance coming out of the market one day, there was a middle-aged gentleman who obviously had the job of collecting the carts from the parking lot. Part of the job, no doubt, was to clean the assorted debris out of the carts before returning them to the store – as I witnessed him diligently retrieving the loose scraps left behind by departed store customers. What I found astonishing was that every loose piece of trash from the carts he retrieved, in a non-accidental manner, ended up in a new resting place - littered across the parking grounds. Apparently, keeping the store’s parking area free of debris wasn’t listed in his job description… apparently, neither was consideration for whoever would eventually be tasked with cleaning up the parking area or any negative customer impressions and/or impacts until clean-up time arrived.

What was the mindset that provoked each of these people, and so many others, to live mired in such a self-absorbed fashion… and such a self-serving way? What was the thinking… the psychological wiring… that allowed some to be so concerned with only self – while caring little about things such meaningful concepts like the bigger picture, content of character, quality of work, legitimacy of effort - and simply not being the type that, for personal interests, has a propensity to willingly throw someone else under the bus?

It was at that point that I recalled a scene from a movie – originally derived, I believe, from an old joke… Two friends are in the wilderness, upon which they both notice a bear coming towards them. One of the men immediately begins to feverishly work to get his sneakers securely on his feet. The second man asks - “What are you doing… do you really think you can outrun a bear?” The first man looks up at his friend and responds – “I don’t have to outrun the bear… only you.”

Perhaps, I considered, there are simply two types of people in this world… those who live their lives like the first friend in the joke – and those who do not… those who could readily sacrifice a stranger or a friend if the ends had the potential to be personally advantageous – and those who simply weren’t wired that way. Then, I reconsidered; perhaps it’s a little more complicated, and a little less black and white, than that. Perhaps we all have the capacity to and do, from time to time, on at least some level, make self-centered statements and decisions – and/or behave in a manner that would suggest the outcome as it effects others is meaningless or irrelevant.

And perhaps, in the end, being a truly happy and fulfilled being is about striving to minimize the instances where we allow ourselves, regardless of the place or circumstances, to stoop to that level… striving instead to accomplish, persevere and achieve in a manner that doesn’t require sacrificing another. For when we willingly sacrifice others for our own gain, in reality it is our own content of character that takes the biggest hit of all.

So, feed the bear… if you must. Just endeavor to find an approach that doesn’t require you to serve up yourself or a friend – and, for that matter, any innocent bystanders. Because everything in life is much sweeter, and true happiness and fulfillment is only attainable when your content of character remains in tact.
