BookPleasures.com D Anthony Interview

I can think of no other way to describe The Nurse in the Delivery Room SlappedMe...Once: Stories and Perspectives to You Help Unlock Your Amazing Potential”. – Lewis Timberlake, Motivational Speaker and Author

Here’s the second of three installment of my Author’s Interview for “The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once: Stories and Perspectives to Help You Unlock Your Amazing Potential” - conducted by Norm Goldman, Publisher and Editor of BookPleasures.com.

***

Norm:

Would you say that the publication of The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me…Once is the culmination of a life long dream? And as a follow up, what motivated you to write the book?

D Anthony:

Not so much the culmination of a life long dream as a significant step in my perceived intended purpose in life. I feel eternally blessed to have the passionate, inspired, appreciative, ever-questioning and ever-striving perspective and attitude I have. And I believe my mission is to pass that sense of hope, inspiration and fortitude to anyone interested in living a better life – and getting more out of each day. And that’s a big part of my motivation for writing the book and everything else I’m working on. Inspiration is one of the most wonderful, life-altering gifts we can possibly give to ourselves and our loved ones. And my dream is that massive quantities of us come to realize that we, both individually and collectively, actually have so much to share.

Norm:

Where did you get your information and ideas for The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me…Once?

D Anthony:

In a word – life... The ironic thing is I am not a detail person. For some reason, detail just isn’t what my brain has ever tended to prioritize, or these days even maintain. To the contrary, the way I see the world, and the events that happen around me, is through a conceptual filter of sorts. As a result, I will often times recognize value in seemingly the most mundane of day to day events – conceptually linking that event with otherwise completely unrelated events or things experienced, seen or heard, perhaps many, many years prior, perhaps not until some point in the future – to ultimately derive some, for me anyway… fundamental truth. Of course, because I tend to see things through that conceptual filter, I’m probably not your best source for good driving directions…

Norm:

How has your environment and/or upbringing influenced your writing?

D Anthony:

My environment is, in part, the inspiration for my writing - as I tend to question, consider, ponder the possibilities about and write about what I experience, hear and see. My upbringing - now that’s the foundation. My sense of purpose, commitment, diligence, perseverance, caring, faith and belief in self all, I believe, were positively influenced by watching and learning from so many of the individuals who had a hand in raising, caring for, teaching and interacting with me during my formative years. I’m sure I could readily map most of the core values expressed throughout the book to my mother, father, teachers, neighbors and so many others. Ultimately, I guess I endeavor to repay each of them for what they gave me by passing my message of inspiration, quality of life, purpose and potential along.

Norm:

What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing and what tools do you feel are must-haves for writers?

D Anthony:

This may be somewhat genre specific, but I think the best writing comes not only from the mind – but from the heart. And it is real, honest and moving. I’ve been fortunate enough to have readers tell me that the content in “The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once” is insightful, frank and honest. I’ve been told the book is easily understood, concise and an easy read. I’ve been told that the book can be challenging. I’ve been told each of the life stories takes the reader on a journey. I’ve been told the book has been designated for use in specifically reserved get away spots – with those respective reserved spots including a lunchtime bench with birds singing in the background, during extended bath-times with candles lit and specially for when seated on the ‘John’. I’ve heard of a husband and wife that were reading the book separately, and discussing the individual life stories and the relevance to their lives, over breakfast each morning. I’d like to believe these all, collectively, offer evidence on behalf of elements of good writing in the book.

Norm:

How do you measure success?

D Anthony:

Have my efforts helped to facilitate positive impact in people’s lives? Are readers being effectively challenged to begin to question more, dream more and see differently? Am I actually helping the world to be a better place? Stuff like that…

BookPleasures.com D Anthony Interview (installment 1 of 3)

Per an earlier post, here’s the first of three installments of my Author’s Interview for “The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once: Stories and Perspectives to Help You Unlock Your Amazing Potential” - conducted by Norm Goldman of BookPleasures.com.

***

Today, Norm Goldman Publisher & Editor of bookpleasures.com is excited to have as our guest D Anthony author of The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me…Once.

Good day D Anthony and thanks for participating in our interview.

D Anthony

Thank you and your readers for having an interest and being willing to invest the time.

Norm:

Please tell our readers a little bit about your personal and professional background.

D Anthony:

Well, as I mention in my book, “The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once: Stories and Perspectives to Help You Unlock Your Amazing Potential” the important thing for readers to note is that I am not a doctor – and have no related certifications of any kind. I am merely someone blessed with the need to, since long ago when I was a child, always ask why, and cursed with the need to then seek the logical answer. The only degree on my proverbial wall is a Bachelor’s in Computer Based Information Management. And that’s the direction I was heading in, fully immersed on my chosen technical career path (including programmer, PC support specialist and telecommunications management) – then life as I knew it ceased to exist. Just like that, my mom was unapologetically and unceremoniously taken away. I was devastated. I had much heartache. I had much anger. And there was little fairness, meaning or purpose in it all to be found. My mom simply wasn’t here anymore and nothing else mattered – not even life itself. I wrote something to release some of my pent-up feelings. It proved therapeutic. I wrote some more. I realized it was therapeutic for others. The more I wrote, the more I had to say. And in time, the wonder of life again began to take hold, revealing an even more inspired and motivated me – bolstered with true purpose in life now fully understood. And I’ve been writing since…

Norm:

Did you have a set plan when writing your book or was it improvisational?

D Anthony:

Definitely improvisational… In fact, some of the earlier stories, poems and maxims in the book, weren’t written for the book. They were originally written as rotational content for the inspirational website I founded eight years (or so) ago, SomethingToShare.com. Based on testimonials from site guests about how helpful the passages were however, it occurred to me that I needed to expand the audience… I needed to compose enough content to publish my first motivational and inspirational book. And a lot of writing, a lot of learning, and a number of sleep deprived nights… has me here…

Norm:

What's the most difficult thing for you about writing your book?

D Anthony:

I would say maintaining my focus on all of the administrative tasks necessary to complete the book – when what I really wanted, and felt like I needed, to do was to just keep writing. Now that the book is completed, the internal conflict continues over the time required for marketing.

Norm:

What has been your overall experience as a published author?

D Anthony:

The experience of being a published author has been remarkable. The book is significantly expanding the audience for the inspirational and motivational message. The volume of positive feedback, complimenting the relevance of the passages and the potential impact they could have, and are having, in readers’ lives has been absolutely incredible thus far. Similarly receiving so many heartfelt reviews and perspectives to this point, complimenting the writing style and degree to which the individual passages are engaging, have further motivated me, as well. Like the terrific Bookpleasures.com review from you Norm (again thank you)… Bottom line, I’m just grateful and very much inspired by the unbelievably positive energy I’m receiving.

Norm:

Do you feel that writers, regardless of genre owe something to readers, if not, why not, if so, why and what would that be?

D Anthony:

I definitely believe writers owe something to their readers. To some degree, I think most every writer has the responsibility to grab and hold the attention of the reader. In the inspirational and motivational genre, I believe there is a particular requirement to uplift, challenge and educate - and hopefully leave the reader with something new, meaningful and relevant to consider.

BookPleasures.com Book Review

In an earlier post, I indicated that I would, from time to time, share “The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once: Stories and Perspectives to Help You Unlock Your Amazing Potential” book reviews. Whether the heartfelt words of an individual reader or the editorial viewpoint of an industry specialist – book reviews are absolutely critical for getting the best impression of a book’s real potential for impact in your life, and/or the lives of loved ones. And I’m happy to say; so far the reviews received have been pretty amazing.

As a perfect example, I’m extremely appreciative to Norm Goldman, publisher and editor of BookPleasures.com, for contributing such an inspiring industry review:

The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me… Once

Author: D Anthony

ISBN: 0931761255

With his debut book, The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me ...Once, D Anthony examines what life is all about where he explores such topics as our perspectives, values, simple acts of kindness, the need for change, gratitude, luck, success, ups and downs of life, choices, following your dreams and passions, happiness, and plethora of many more topics. And as D Anthony best sums it up, "The simple truth is; life is what we make of it."

The Nurse in the Delivery Room Slapped Me...Once is certainly a lively and challenging discussion that no doubt will provide its readers with much food for thought. The breadth of the philosophical musings are quite remarkable as they are presented in the form of short essays, poems, maxims and truisms that require readers to savour each one in order to thoroughly digest them.

It may be argued that the book is one man's perspective on life, however, when you analyze D Anthony's sage advice, you have to admit that he certainly is on the right track. For example, D Anthony maintains that in this life and in our outlook, perspective is all that counts. When we think about this, we should ask ourselves how many times we have made mountains out of molehills where we feel that the worst is going to happen to us. There is no doubt that each day brings with it a variety of problems, however, why is it that many of us perceive them with the same level of importance. Author Henry Kaiser best summed up the term problems when he asserted: "Problems are only opportunities in work clothes," or as one of my teachers once said, there are no problems but only solutions.

I loved D Anthony's essay entitled One Day where he begins with: "It is said that the most valuable real estate on earth can be found in cemeteries because it is there that, buried among the remains, are all the ideas and opportunities not invested in or executed." How often do we procrastinate and fall into the trap of that old song that was co-written and sung by Peggy Lee entitled Maana. As explored throughout the book, D Anthony reminds his readers that they only have one life to live. Why not take advantage of everyday and make a difference either to ourselves or to others.

In another essay D Anthony tackles the issue as to why some people are successful riding a wave of achievements while others are floundering or spinning their wheels without going anywhere. In other words, many of us lack the passion to fulfill our dreams or we fall into the trap of being apathetic. As D Anthony sums it up, "Apathy is a state of mind, a desolate, stagnant, barren, psychologically debilitating state with an exorbitant cost of living. Don't even visit."

These are only tidbits of the astute counsel D Anthony provides to his readers hoping that somewhere along the way many of us will wake up and smell the coffee.

There are hundreds of books devoted to spiritual enrichment that are often quite dull usually digressing with a great deal of repetition and "mumbo jumbo." What sets D Anthony apart is his snappy, entertaining prose style, bolstered by his poetry and sincere guidance. In the end, however, it is up to the reader to decide if he or she will pursue the path outlined by D Anthony or remain stuck in their comfy old ways without entertaining the thought that perhaps change is necessary. Why not take a few risks, and maybe, just maybe, D Anthony knows what he is talking about and deserves a great deal of praise with his down-to-earth advice.

The Credo

The Credo

No matter how concentrated and concerted our efforts to the contrary, the simple truth is, at times, life is going to throw some significant challenges our way - often times when we are lest expecting. So not if, but when this happens - it will be primarily our perspective that will ultimately determine the nature of our attitude. And it will be primarily our attitude that will ultimately determine the nature of our response.

For this reason, and countless others, those who can manage to maintain a passionate, inspired approach to each and every day create a tremendous edge for not only effectively dealing with life's immanent lows - but for maximizing the quantity and quality of life's potentially magnificent highs... not to mention simply being considerably more happy and fulfilled on a daily basis.

So how can you begin to maintain a passionate, inspired approach to each and every day? That's the easy part. Believe it or not, it's as simple as beginning to alter your everyday perspective by changing the things that you expose yourself to, talk about, think about and dedicate time to -.. on a regular basis. Exposure to anybody and everything negative, to the extent possible, should be eliminated - otherwise severely minimized.

Have you ever spent a considerable amount of time around someone who is overwhelmingly negative? Did you notice the affect to your psyche, spiritual equilibrium and overall energy level? If you are anything like me, the longer you stay around that extreme negativity - the more draining it becomes. Much like Superman in close proximity to a chunk of a certain glowing green mass from home, there have been times I could literally feel my energy... my spirit my 'Mojo... being inexplicably drawn from my body and mind. After a long period of exposure, I didn't particularly want to achieve anything, improve anything, create anything, aspire to anything or help anybody. I just wanted to, no needed to, go somewhere and commence to recover.

Conversely, spending ample time around someone who is inherently upbeat, energized, purposeful, inspirational, motivational and continually aspiring to be better is a sure fire way for me to come away from the interaction feeling considerably more inspired and more empowered... that much more ready to believe in myself - and more committed to strive for my dreams and aspirations.

Well interestingly enough, it works in a similar fashion with exposure to low dosages of negativity or positivity on a steady basis. Negative comments, thoughts, perceptions, expectations, words and deeds will do nothing, over time, but limit your potential - and ultimately tear you down. Truly positive influences on the other hand, from wherever they come, such as motivational and inspirational books for instance, collectively can continuously challenge, encourage and motivate us - forever nudging us forward... forever reminding us that never has a home run been the outcome of either a timid or non-existent swing.

The bottom line is life tends to play out much better when we have the ability to positively influence its outcome. And the most effective way to be that positive influence is to simply create a you that is continuously influenced by positivity. Do that and you can't help but be a more positive person. And if you are a more positive person, you can't help but be incrementally happier and more fulfilled in this life - even when a challenge or two finds you.

Here's our signature motivational and inspirational passage, "Begin Anew" to get you started. Read it, consider it, then read it again. For each time you read it, and anything else positive you can get your hands on - and dedicate the time and energy to absorb it... you can't help but have a little more perspective, and be a better person. And the world can't help but be a better place...
